KINGSTON – The proposed merger of transit bus service provided by the County of Ulster and the city of Kingston continues under discussion.
Combined bus service is one component of the statewide plan to merge
municipal services where possible for operational efficiencies and to
save money.
County Executive Michael Hein said the merged bus service is one definitive
way to do both.
“My focus from the very beginning has been about ensuring the best possible government services for the people of Ulster County,” Hein said. “There is no question that a single transportation system will provide exactly that, a more smoothed out system, easier access, more technology, data driven routes to serve the great citizens of Ulster County, make us more business friendly, but also make it easier to use for every resident of Ulster County.”
Across the Hudson, Dutchess County Government one year ago took over the City of Poughkeepsie’s bus system.
