TOWN OF WASHINGTON – A
motorist was killed Tuesday morning when their car ran across Shunpike
Road near Kennels Road in the Town of Washington and struck a tree. The
investigation is continuing, but police said unsafe speed appears to be
the primary factor in the crash.
The operator was the sole occupant and was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred around 9 a.m.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office withheld victim’s name pending notification of relatives.  They did not say whether the victim was male or female.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is still investigating. The office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, Northern Dutchess Paramedics and the Millbrook Fire Department.
