MIDDLETOWN – The next civil service test for Middletown police officer will be held on September 15 and as many as eight new officers will be hired.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said new officers will be needed to fill current and anticipated vacancies.
“I believe we have at least four vacancies and we are going to be adding four positions because of the SRO issue and the school budget passed. I don’t know if we are going to hire all eight from the exiting test or wait depending upon what we feel the best quality is for the city.”
DeStefano also said the city is expecting retirements in the ranks of
the police department, possibly opening up additional slots.
City Civil Service Administrator Joseph Masi said the deadline to take
the next test is August 2 and interested persons should submit their applications
and fees as soon as possible.
