PORT JERVIS – The rejuvenated Pike Plaza in Port Jervis has its first major tenant as a new Sav-A-Lot supermarket opens for business today.
The 20,000-square foot store is the only supermarket in the city. A much smaller store of the same name, operated on Jersey Avenue by a different franchisee, closed some time ago.
The new store is owned and operated by Parvinder Kauer and her husband, Harry Singh of the Town of Newburgh.
This is their first venture in the supermarket business and Singh expects to draw for the entire area surrounding Port Jervis.
“We are planning to target New Jersey, Matamoras, Pennsylvania, Port Jervis, New York, or course,” Singh said.
The family also operates several gas stations and convenience stores in the greater Newburgh area.

Save-A-Lot is the first business in the Pike Plaza in seven years
. The last large supermarket in the city, a Great American,
in the same structure, closed many years ago.
