ALBANY – Sullivan County topped the state in job growth during the 12-month period ended in May, the state labor department reported Thursday.
The 9.8 percent job growth can be attributed to the hiring at the casino, the soon-to-open upscale spa and other projects underway.
Job growth in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division came in at 2.6 percent while it rose by 1.4 percent in Ulster County, by 1.2 percent in Columbia County and by 0.7 percent in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area.
Jobs were stable with no growth in Greene County.
Private sector jobs rose by 1.3 percent, or by 10,100, in the Hudson Valley during the 12-month period. Gains were largest in educational and health services at 6,200; natural resources, mining and construction at 2,800; professional and business services at 2,300; leisure and hospitality at 1,600; other services at 400; and financial activities at 200.
Losses were centered in trade, transportation and utilities at a decline of 1,500 jobs and manufacturing with a drop of 900.
