GOSHEN – Orange County Community Development Director Richard Mayfield has been named the New York State director of Rural Development for the US Department of Agriculture.
Mayfield joined county government in 2007 as press secretary to then-County Executive Edward Diana. He was later promoted to the position of the county’s director of operations.
A life-long resident of Orange County, Mayfield served as district director for Congressman Benjamin Gilman for 12 years and director of the Office of Inter-Governmental Relations with the State Assembly before joining county government.
His last day with the county is today, Friday, June 15.
“Rich is a consummate professional who cares deeply about his work, and the Orange County residents that he proudly serves,” sad County Executive Steven Neuhaus. “He has always been respected and admired by his peers.”
Mayfield said he looks forward to working with USDA officials “to increase rural prosperity and enhance customer service through innovation and partnerships in the state.”
