City of Yonkers approves 2018-2019 budget; taxes up over six percent

YONKERS – The Yonkers City budget for 2018-2019 was approved in a unanimous vote by the city council Wednesday night. The $1.19 billion budget will increase the property tax levy by 6.2 percent. A typical one-to-three family home at the median assessed value of $11,200 will see an average increase of $46 per month.
The spending plan includes a $582.6 million school budget.  It also includes $8.8 million in additional state aid.
The budget will eliminate most vacant positions but does not include any municipal layoffs.
