NEWBURGH – Newburgh Ministry is asking Newburgh officials to transfer to it property at 17 Johnston Street that the city owns so that it can develop housing for the marginalized community.
Ministry Director Colin Jarvis told city council members that they want to help people in the city who could otherwise not afford to live there.
“We will develop something that is humane, decent, so that folks can be proud of where they are living,” Jarvis said. “We have to begin this process of reenergizing the City of Newburgh with the residents from the City of Newburgh and live in the City of Newburgh, but seemingly are marginalized more and more every single day.”
Mayor Torrance Harvey said the plans are very significant for the people of the city, who fear they will be priced out, especially during the renaissance of the city.
