NEWBURGH – After a year of restoration, Crystal Lake in Newburgh is reopening for swimming, boating, fishing and sports.
The lake, not far from Broadway, will also be available daily for hiking, fishing and studying the wildlife there.
On Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m., a ribbon cutting will celebrate the
reopening made possible through a collaboration including Scenic Hudson;
The City of Newburgh, which owns the property; Merakey-Center for Hope,
and the Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance; along with local businesses,
schools groups and city residents who volunteers to remove trash, plan
trees and blaze a trail to the top of nearby Snake Hill.
Critical funding for the project was provided by Scenic Hudson Land Trustee Board member Wheelock Whitney III.
