Middletown not giving up, yet, on the depot

MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown has taken back possession of the dilapidated O&W Station from the former Middletown Community Health Center and is in the process of identifying a company interested in redeveloping the fire-damaged facility.
Middletown had given the community center, now part of Cornerstone Family Health Center, the building with the understanding that it would seek the funding to convert it into offices, but that never materialized.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said rather than level the historic structure, the city will try again to attract developers.
“There was a lot of public response that they would like the city to try one more time to have this historic building saved, so we are going to do so,” the mayor said. “We are doing outreach now will be putting another RFP very shortly and see what kind of response we get.”
The once-stately train station has sat for years as a vacant shell.
