Chester town supervisor arrested on charges of unemployment benefits fraud

CHESTER – Town of Chester Supervisor Alex Jamieson has been arrested
on a 22-count indictment alleging he collected unemployment benefits while
being paid a salary for his elected office. The total theft alleged by
the state Attorney General’s Office was some $6,000.

Jamieson, 54, was arraigned Wednesday in Albany County Court.

The charges include one count of grand larceny and 21 counts of offering
a false instrument for filing. All 22 counts are felonies.

The 17-page indictment filed in Albany County Court alleges that on or
about June 16, 2014 through on or about November 20, 2014, he stole the
funds from the state labor department.

The remaining 21 counts of indictment allege that he knowingly submitted
weekly certifications for unemployment insurance benefits that contained
false statement or false information on or about July 16, 2013, July 28,
2013, August 18, 2013, September 1, 2013; September 15, 2013, September
29, 2013, June 28, 2014, June 29, 2014, July 6, 2014, July 13, 2014, July
20, 2014, July 27, 2014, August 3, 2014, August 10, 2014, August 24, 2014,
August 31, 2014, September 7, 2014, September 14, 2014, September 21,
2018, September 28, 2014, October 5, 2014, and October 12, 2014.
