KINGSTON – Following the
Ulster County Democratic Committee’s endorsement of Juan Figueroa
for sheriff over incumbent and fellow Democrat Paul VanBlarcum last week,
the county Republican Committee Wednesday evening lent its support to
current top cop.
Members of the Democratic committee were not too pleased with some of
VanBlarcum’s more conservative stances over the past year.
The last time the sheriff ran, he was the only candidate and received
the cross-endorsement of the GOP committee as well as the county Conservative
committee.
Conservative Party Chairman Ed Gaddy said last week that they would
probably also endorse VanBlarcum when they meet in the days ahead.
