WHITE PLAINS – A 16-year-old
Greenburgh man was sentenced in Westchester County Court to 15 years in
prison on a charge of manslaughter and 15 years for criminal possession
of a weapon. Both terms will run concurrently.

Trevon Major was convicted of killing Joseph Smith III in the hallway
of a Greenburgh apartment building on August 17, 2017.

Major and two others had robbed another person. Smith, the fiancé
of the victim’s mother, went to the home of Major and when he knocked
on the door, Major answered and shot Smith once in the chest.

Trevon Major, his brother, Vance Major, and the third perpetrator, Timothy
Whitney, remained in the apartment until the police arrived.

The cases against Vance Major and Whitney are still pending.
