NEWBURGH – Fire late Wednesday morning in Newburgh destroyed two
sheds and damaged four other buildings at Carpenter Avenue at First Street.

The commercial property is the location of a lumber yard and recycling
company for the storage and refinishing of furniture, said Assistant Fire
Chief John Ryan.

One city firefighter sustained minor burns to his face, Ryan said.

Firefighters had difficulty battling the flames because of wind conditions
and low water pressure.

Ryan said the sheds were destroyed and the four other buildings sustained
exposure damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
