HANCOCK – State Police
are investigating a fatal accident in which a man fell from Jensen’s
Ledge on the Bouchoux Trail State Preserve in Hancock.
Sullivan County 911 received a call around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday that a
man had fallen off Jensen’s Ledge. A Sullivan County Sheriff’s
deputy was able to locate the man and confirm he was dead.
An investigation found that the man, whose name police did not immediately
release, was hiking with two friends when he attempted to take a position
near the ledge to obtain a better picture, but slipped off.
Due to limited nighttime lighting and difficult terrain, it was determined
to remove the man on Monday.
Forest rangers stayed with the body through the night and removed it with
assistance from Hancock firefighters around 2:45 p.m. Monday.
