NEW YORK – Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo was selected by the state Democratic Committee on Wednesday as their standard-bearer for the state’s top job. He will be seeking his third four-year term.
At the same time, Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro was nominated at the state Republican Committee convention to challenge Cuomo in November.
Cuomo challenger actress Cynthia Nixon can still face him in a September
Democratic primary election. She will appear on the November ballot regardless
as the nominee of the Working Families Party.
Molinaro has maintained that New York government is corrupt and that he would rid Albany of that element if elected.
