Two NYPD officers killed when Maserati crashes in Ulster County – UPDATE!

SHANDAKEN – Two Long Island men, both members of the New York City
Police Department, were killed late Sunday night when the Maserati they
were in ran off Oliveria Road in the Town of Shandaken, struck a tree
and overturned. NYPD confirmed both men were officers in their department.

State Police said the one-car crash occurred at 11:23 p.m. The driver
of the 2018 vehicle, John Martinez, 39, of Hauppauge, and passenger, Michael
Colangelo, 31, of Huntington Station, were both pronounced dead at the
scene.

State Police Trooper Steven Nevel confirmed the men were returning from
Colangelo’s wedding when the accident occurred.

A third person in the car was transported to Albany Medical Center with
non life-threatening injuries. He was not a police officer.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Town of Shandaken Police, the
Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, New York City Department of Environmental
Protection Police, fire departments from Big Indian, Pine Hill, Oliveria
and Phoenicia and Shandaken EMS.
