ALBANY – The battle to curb Lyme disease is moving forward as the State Senate has approved a legislative package aimed at expanding education and public awareness, promoting preventing and strengthening treatment.
Senator Susan Serino (R, Hyde Park) chairwoman of the Senate Lyme Task Force, said reaching children to teach them how to avoid Lyme and how to spot and report it is key.
“We have to start young because those are the kinds; they are out there playing in the grass,” Serino said. “They are getting Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. Education is the key to prevention.”
The State Assembly must approve the bills before they go to the governor’s desk for his signature.
The measures are on top of $1 million in the state budget to r\fight
Lyme.
