Uprooted tree brings down power lines in Wingdale

NEWBURGH – A woman was killed when a tree fell on her car as she
was driving on Albany Post Road in the Town of Newburgh Tuesday afternoon,
killing her, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

An 11-year-old girl was killed in the City of Newburgh when a tree fell
on her mother’s car as they were unpacking groceries.

The governor said that while property can be repaired and replaced, the
loss of life is unfortunate and heartbreaking.

Cuomo toured Putnam Valley Wednesday assessing the damage with other top
officials including MaryEllen Odell, Putnam County’s executive.

The governor noted that with additional rain this week, it could make
for weakening tree root systems and the possibility of other falling trees.
He urged people to be extra careful.

At the peak of power outages, 200,000 customers were without electricity
across the region on Tuesday, Cuomo said.
