Uprooted tree brings down power lines in Wingdale
NEWBURGH – The storm that hammered the region on Tuesday claimed
three lives.
A woman was killed when a tree fell on her car as she was driving on
Albany Post Road in the Town of Newburgh Tuesday afternoon, Governor Andrew
Cuomo said Wednesday.
An 11-year-old girl, Gina Garzon, was killed in the City of Newburgh when
a tree fell on her mother’s car as they were unpacking groceries.
Ramapo Police, meanwhile, said an 80-year-old Chestnut Ridge woman died
from injuries she sustained when a tree fell on top of her car as she
drove during Tuesday’s storm on Red Schoolhouse Road in that village.
The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said that while property can be repaired and replaced,
the loss of life is unfortunate and heartbreaking.
