MONTICELLO – The members of the Monticello Village Board will have to reach a consensus shortly on who will serve as mayor until the village elections next March now that Mayor Douglas Solomon has formally resigned.
He submitted a brief letter to the village clerk saying he was stepping down effective today, May 15, because of his “extremely demanding work schedule as chief of police in the City of Newburgh.”
That drew kudos at Monday night’s Newburgh City Council session from Councilwoman Patty Sofokles.
“I want to thank Chief Solomon for his commitment to the City of Newburgh,” Sofokles said. “I noticed he resigned as the mayor of Monticello so that shows his commitment to us.”
Solomon was named mayor of Monticello following the resignation of Mayor Gordon Jenkins. He then ran for a full term.
