YONKERS – Gabriel Rosado, a Yonkers doorman, watched as his coworker scratched a “Set for Life” state Lottery ticket so he decided to go out and buy one for himself. When he scratched it off, he realized he had won the $5 million jackpot prize. He decided to split it with his close friend, Juan Aldama Mendez, also from Yonkers. Each man will take home $1.27 million after taxes.
Rosado, 24, introduced by Lottery officials on Thursday, plans to use some of his winnings to become an entrepreneur. He also wants to buy a condo for himself and a new home for his mom.
Also there was Misty Morano, 43, of Cortlandt Manor, who won the “Cash4Life” drawing translating into a guaranteed $7 million jackpot. She will take her winnings in one lump sum of $4.7 million after taxes. Morano plans to buy a house and take care of her teenage sons and extended family. “We won’t have to struggle anymore,” she said.
Elmsford resident Elizabeth Aprile won the $1 million second prize in the April 10 “Mega Millions” drawing. She will take home $671,800 after taxes and will use her winnings to “help out my children and safe for retirement.” She also plans to “treat myself to an extra trip or two to the spa each year.”
