SAUGERTIES – A driver
who said his gas pedal stuck as he backed out of his driveway, wound up
crashing his 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee into the unoccupied part of the
Twin Maples Plaza on Red Maple Road in Saugerties early Tuesday afternoon.
Saugerties Police said the driver, Robert Beesmer, 63, was backing out
of his driveway when the accelerator became stuck, causing the vehicle
to shoot across the road, over an earth embankment, striking a tree and
then hitting the building, coming to rest halfway into the structure.
No charges were lodged.
Saugerties Police were assisted by the Glasco Fire Department, Diaz Ambulance
and the Town of Saugerties Building Department.
The investigation is continuing.
