One killed in head-on crash between car and school bus

HYDE PARK – The driver
of a car was killed when his vehicle collided with a Red Hook school bus
around 8 a.m. Monday on South Quaker Lane in the Town of Hyde Park.

Town Police said the accident occurred as both vehicles were traveling
toward each other on South Quaker Lane.

The victim, whose name police did not make public on Monday, was partially
ejected from his 2002 Honda Civic and was pronounced dead at the scene
by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s office.

The bus, a 2015 Ford, was occupied by three students, a bus monitor and
a driver. No serious injuries were reported and they were all transported
to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for evaluation.

The accident is being investigated by the Town of Hyde Park Police Detective
Division with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were the Pleasant Valley and Roosevelt Fire Departments,
Mobile Life Support Services ambulance, State Police, Dutchess County
Medical Examiner’s Office and Dutchess Ambulette.
