MIDDLETOWN – Members of the Middletown City CSEA have been working without a current contract since the end of 2014. By law, they are being paid under terms of the expired contract.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the city offered the union the same terms as the Orange County CSEA, but union leadership turned it down.
The mayor asked leadership to propose their own terms, which the city
negotiating team agreed to be offered to the rank-and-file, but, DeStefano
said union leadership never presented it.
“Until they have a vote on the offer that they negotiated and accepted the leadership, I have said to them that we are at an impasse and we are going into fact-finding. I think it is unconscionable that they would negotiate a deal and then not following through with at least presenting it to their membership for a vote.”
Union leadership could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
