TOWN OF WALLKILL – Two prominent Republicans are in the running, but two other potential Republican candidates for the State Senate seat being vacated by John Bonacic of Mount Hope at the end of the year, say they are not interested.
Daniel Depew, the former Wallkill town supervisor and current deputy Sullivan County manager, was interested for just a couple of days before he announced to the annual Orange County GOP dinner that he is no longer considering it.
“I love my family and I am making this decision for my family,” he said. Depew and his wife have three small children.
Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois was also encouraged by many to run, but he told Mid-Hudson News on Sunday he, too, is not interested.
“I’m a cop and I am not really interested in the job of a legislator, which really has a lot more on his plate than just one vocation like I have,” DuBois said.
Assemblyman Karl Brabenec of Deerpark said he is in the running and former Orange County executive and current Wallkill Town Supervisor Edward Diana said he is exploring the possibility.
Two women are seeking the Democratic Party nod for the post, Jen Metzger of Ulster County and Pramilla Malick of Orange County.
