ALBANY – Dr. Donald Christian,
president of SUNY New Paltz, has been appointed as co-chairman of the
Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council. He replaces Dr. Dennis
Murray, the retired president of Marist College, who has served as co-chairman
since the council’s inception in 2011.
“A strong economy is the foundation of our region’s quality of life,” Christian said.  “We have funded since the process began 567 different projects, 90 percent of them have either been completed or are well in progress. We have a six-to-one leverage ratio, so for every dollar of state investment, we have been leveraging $6 of total investment.”
The average across the state is five-to-one, he said.
Christian is currently a member of the council that includes the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.
