Gunther: “You should come forward”

MONTICELLO – Two hours after Bill Cosby was convicted of all sexual assault counts against him, the lobby of the Sullivan County Government Center was adorned in white t-shirts and red shoes.  The two events on Thursday were coincidental, and timely.
In Monticello, it was the 7th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” program.
Among the speakers was Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther.
“The program is designe to increase awareness of rape intervention,
crisis center and also, with the ‘Me too’ issue and we know
about, is around our country and just increase awareness and make sure
people know there is help out there.”
Gunther said victims also need to know that if it happens to them, it is not their fault.
“We’re saying to them that you should come forward and we are here for you and if you know something say something. If you have a friend and they need help, make sure you reach out to wives, and adult, or a school counselor, it’s very, very important.”
Over 100, women and men, young and old, gathered for the Monticello event.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” which has become an international movement, was organized by the International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence.
