STORMVILLE – A prisoner at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville attacked five corrections officers on Tuesday, sending all of them to the hospital.
According to information obtained by Mid-Hudson News, an inmate at the maximum security prison punched a female officer in the face several times knocking her unconscious.
Another officer radioed for backup, but the inmate punched him the face repeatedly. The inmate kept walking down the hall when a third officer ordered him to stop. The inmate refused to comply and then put the officer in a bear hug, striking the officer in the face with his head. That officer was able to bring the inmate to the floor.
Two other officers responded and used their bodies to restrain him while another officer tried to place him in restraints, but he used his feet to kick the officers and head butted both. Another officer, seeing the struggle, ordered the inmate to comply, but he refused. The officer then used pepper spray to spray the inmate in the face and subdue him.
One of the officers was transported to an area hospital by ambulance, while the others were transported by other vehicles.
All the officers remained out of service following the incident.
