The building that housed three apartments was heavily damaged

SAUGERTIES – The woman killed in the Saturday morning fire that
destroyed a building with three apartments and damaged an adjacent building
was identified Monday as Tanya Conklin, 46, a resident of Apartment two.

Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said the victim was found dead
in a rear bedroom. Also in the apartment were 22-year-old Brittany Conklin,
21-year-old Malikye Stokes, 17-year-old Samantha Widener, and nine-year-old
Desiree Widener. A 17-year-old friend of the family, Amber Engwiller of
Mount Marion, was staying over at the time of the fire. She sustained
burns and injuries when she jumped out of a second-story window. She is
in Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla in critical but stable condition,
the chief said. All of the other occupants of the apartment were treated
for minor injuries and released.

Sinagra said the fire apparently started in Apartment 1, although the
cause has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.

That apartment was occupied by 37-year-old Nawabzada Kahn, his wife Monna
Khan, and their three children, a 10-year-old boy, nine-year-old girl,
and three-year-old boy.

The husband, wife and 10-year-old son are in Westchester Medical Center
for treatment of extensive burns and are in critical but stable condition.
The other two children were not injured and are in the care of relatives.

The occupants of Apartment 3, 24-year-old Danielle Conklin and 29-year-old
Brian Shultis, were not injured.

The building is owned by Guiseppe Sireci of Brooklyn.
