ALBANY – The state Public Service Commission has directed the state’s major utilities including Central Hudson, Orange and Rockland Utilities and NYSEG, to immediately improve communications and coordination following the two major storms that pounded the region in March.
The PSC said the failure on the part of some utilities to adequately communicate with municipalities during the storms was one of the problems that appeared during the last storms. Other issues still being investigated include failure to adequately inform customers about estimated restoration times, poor customer communications in general, and the length of time to restore power overall.
As part of the investigation, public statement hearings will be held in nine counties to receive comment about the preparedness and response to the March winter storms.
