WEST POINT – The US Military Academy is conducting an annual multi-day, multi-agency force protection exercise today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, April 19 and 20.
Activities at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday will close Thayer, Washington and Stony Lonesome gates for approximately 15 minutes. Vehicle traffic in Central Area and along Stony Lonesome Road, between Washington Road and Holleder Center, could also be affected from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today. No other operational impacts are anticipated.
The exercise will test West Point’s ability to respond to a full range of crisis possibilities. The scenario will incorporate elements of mass notification, active shooter an improvised explosive device response, personnel protective actions such as lockdown or evacuation, and mass casualty care.
The exercise will enable West Point leaders, first responders and tenant organizations and off-post mutual aid partners to participate in an assessment of emergency preparedness procedures and capabilities in the context of a potentially tragic – and all too possible – multifaceted threat, academy officials said.
