ALBANY – Buoyed by the
hiring of 1,000 employees at the new casino, Sullivan County private sector
job growth in the 12 months ending in March reached 9.7 percent, the highest
rate in the state.
The Ithaca Metro Area was the closest at just four percent.
In the Hudson Valley/Catskills, the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division
had 3.1 percent growth while Greene County’s new jobs grew by 2.9
percent.
Columbia County had 1.9 percent job growth in March, while Ulster County
had 1.1 percent growth and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area
experienced just 0.4 percent growth.
In the 12 months ending in March region-wide, private sector jobs grew
by 8,300 or 1.10 percent.
Gains were largest in educational and health services; professional and
business services; natural resources, mining, and construction; and financial
activities. Losses were centered in trade, transportation and utilities;
and manufacturing.
