Body of man lost in Wallkill River recovered

RIFTON – The body of a
man who was kayaking in the Wallkill River at Rifton on February 13 was
recovered on Friday.
Around 9:15 a.m. State Police divers recovered the remains of David Vena, 49, of Rifton.
Police said he was attempting to cross the river from a small island
in the center using a kayak and rope when entered the water.
The kayak and personal items were recovered at the scene but attempts
by divers to local Vena were unsuccessful until Friday.
State Police were assisted in the search by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Rosendale Police, Rifton and Ulster Hose fire departments, Ulster County Emergency Management and Central Hudson.
