PINE BUSH – The Pine Bush
Central School District is changing bus companies, but it is the hope
of the 100 drivers, monitors and mechanics employed by the previous company
that they will be retained.
The employees of First Student, Inc., which lost its contract to Birnie
Bus, are members of Teamsters Local 445.
“We have not met with Birnie yet, but they have verbally told us
they will recognize our contract,” said Lori Polesel, union vice
president and business agent. “Birnie is looking to retain all employees;
however, drivers also have the option to retain employment with First
Student at another one of its facilities,” she said.
The new contract with Birnie is a five-year agreement.
