ALBANY – The February unemployment rate in the seven-county Hudson Valley region came in at 5.2 percent and 10 communities were reported to have higher levels.
The City of Newburgh, at 6.9 percent unemployment, had the highest rate of joblessness in the region in February.
The Town of Haverstraw, with 6.8 percent, was ranked second highest.
The City of Mount Vernon and City of New Rochelle each ranked third with 6.7 percent unemployment.
The City of Poughkeepsie, with 6.2 percent of its workforce unemployed, was ranked fourth highest in the region.
Sullivan County as a whole ranked fifth with 5.9 percent joblessness and was tied with the City of Yonkers.
Ulster County was ranked sixth with 5.5 percent jobless.
The Town of Newburgh, with 5.4 percent of its workforce unemployed, was ranked seventh and the Town of Wallkill, with 5.2 percent unemployment, was ranked eighth.
The lowest rate of joblessness in the region in February was in the Town of Monroe, at 4.3 percent. The towns of Ramapo and Mamaroneck each had 4.4 percent unemployment.
