Adsit: “I am going to be accessible”

NEWBURGH – Officials at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh introduced their new president on Tuesday.
Jason Adsit was chosen from among three candidates being evaluated by the college’s Presidential Selection Committee.
Adsit said he specifically sought the top job at the Mount because of
the holistic approach to student growth for which he believes the institution
stands. He said his priority will be to facilitate accessibility to students
and address their needs directly.
“The first thought that’s going to go through my head each day is, what are we doing to enhance student learning and enhance the student experience,” said Adsit. “I am going to be accessible. I am going to be visible. I am going to listen to you. That’s my promise to all of you.”
Adsit possesses a wide range of higher education experience ranging from administrative to educational, including serving as the Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences and Education at D’Youville College, also a private Catholic university like Mount Saint Mary. There he also oversaw five graduate and undergraduate programs.  He was also the former Director of Teaching and Learning at SUNY Buffalo, his alma mater, where he received his PhD and worked with an administrative research team at Johns Hopkins University.
Chairman of Mount Saint Mary Board of Trustees Charles Frank said after some issues at the college, appointing Adsit was a significant victory.
“This is a historic day for Mount Saint Mary College and we are proud and thankful to be taking a step forward into the 21st Century, as we carry our Catholic-Dominican mission of providing academic excellence and character formation to our students as they go out into the world,” said Frank. “No better mission could we have.”
Adsit will begin his tenure on June 1, at which time he will take over from Interim President David Kennet.
