The fire, believed to be accidental in nature, started in a bedroom

ARLINGTON – An early Saturday morning fire in the Town of Poughkeepsie
caused heavy damage to a home at 2170 New Hackensack Road displacing six
people.
Five of them, who were home at the time, and the family dog, got out unharmed.
The sleeping occupants were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector.

The Red Cross was coordinating assistance for the family.

Arlington Fire Chief Tory Gallante said the fire was first reported in
the bedroom with firefighters responding to the scene within four minutes
of the 12:45 a.m. call. They faced heavy fire and smoke conditions in
the single-family residence.

The cause of the two-alarm fire was determined to be accidental and involved
failure of electrical distribution equipment, the chief said. The fire
was investigated by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division.

Assisting at the scene were the New Hamburg Fire Department, Mobile Life
Support Services, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, Building Department, and
Water Department, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and
Central Hudson Gas and Electric.

Fire departments from Wappingers Falls, New Hackensack and Pleasant Valley
relocated equipment to cover Arlington stations.

All departments were back in service by 6 a.m.
