Monticello man arrested with illegal loaded handgun

MONTICELLO – A Monticello man is in the Sullivan County jail in
lieu of $50,000 bail following his arrest late on Saturday afternoon.
The car in which Shamell Moore, 24, was a passenger was pulled over by
Monticello Police while driving on Broadway with a defective brake light.

Officers detected a smell of marijuana and found him in possession of
six plastic baggies containing marijuana. Officers Eric Youmans and Tyrus
Walker also found a jacket in the vehicle belonging to Moore and discovered
a loaded 9 mm handgun in a pocket. The gun was loaded with eight rounds
of ammunition.
When officers found the gun, Moore took off but was chased down and
stopped with a Taser before being taken into custody.

The officers also found him in possession of Alprozolam after his arrest.

Moore was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanors
of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest,
as well as a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.
