Yonkers Police, post office, investigate mail thefts

YONKERS – Police in Yonkers and the US Postal Service are investigating incidents of mail theft occurring in the lower Westchester County area.
Police said residents should be cautious about their mail and review bank and credit statements for signs of fraudulent activity and identity theft.
They also said people should report suspicious activity at or around mailboxes in Yonkers to city police at 914-377-7900. If it is an emergency, call 911.
Outside Yonkers, call your local police.
Police also suggest using gel-based pens when writing checks to protect against check washing and beware of mailbox fishing.
