Wanted man surrenders after standoff with police

NEW WINDSOR – Several law enforcement officers in tactical gear were at a residence at 46 Bivona Lane in the Town of New Windsor attempted to serve a warrant against a suspect.
After a standoff, Ryan Coppola, 34, of Plattekill gave up and was taken into custody.
Coppola was wanted following an investigation into heroin sales in Plattekill and surrounding areas. He had been wanted by members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team since a recent warrant sweep.
Police learned he was at the residence of his girlfriend’s grandmother in New Windsor and after a brief standoff with police, he surrendered.
Coppola was charged with the felonies of criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance. He was sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
URGENT members were assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Town of New Windsor Police, Orange County Special Operations group and the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.
