POUGHKEEPSIE – MidHudson Regional Hospital, known as St. Francis
Hospital until being taken over by Westchester Medical Center Health Network
in 2014, Tuesday unveiled an $8 million renovation to the Medical-Surgical
unit on the sixth floor of the Cooke Building on the Poughkeepsie hospital’s
campus.

The project is the first of many slated for the hospital’s aging building.
Hospital Executive Director Paul Hochenberg said “this innovative
renovation, with upgraded patient rooms, a new nurse station and the latest
technologies is the optimal environment to offer the best in patient care.”

The 243 bed hospital is slated to receive continued upgrades and remodeling
throughout the entire Cooke Building, according to Michael Israel, president
and CEO of Westchester Medical Center Health Network, the hospital’s parent
company. Israel indicated that the renovations at the Cooke Building are
part of the hospital’s commitment to providing expert care locally as
opposed to “treating and transferring.”

Renovations unveiled on Tuesday include patient rooms with private bathrooms,
a modern headwall system, and a smart state-of-the-art bed.

Antimicrobial and antiseptic finish materials and custom built cabinetry
are in the rooms and the floor has an open, accessible and technologically
advanced nursing station.

The renovations are part of an overall investment of three quarters of
a billion dollars in Hudson Valley facilities operated by WMC in Orange,
Dutchess, Westchester and Orange counties.
