Molinaro – trailing in early polls

LOUDONVILLE – Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo out polled either potential Republican challenger Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro or State Senator John DeFrancisco by a two to one margin, according to the latest Siena College poll of New York State registered voters.
Cuomo, seeking a third term, was ahead of Molinaro 57 to 29 percent and by 57-28 percent over DeFrancisco.
The incumbent governor also outpolled potential Democratic primary opponent, actress and activist Cynthia Nixon by 66-19 percent.  Nixon confirmed her candidacy on Monday. 
The gubernatorial primary is September 13.
The Siena poll also found that five years after its passage, the New
York SAFE Act remains very popular with voters, who now support it 61-28
percent, up from 59-33 percent in October 2015.
Voters strongly to overwhelmingly support six measures to address guns and/or school safety – three passed in the State Senate and three passed in the State Assembly, but none have passed both houses.
By a 65-32 percent margin, voters support a ban on the sale of assault weapons nationally. And voters oppose, 69-28 percent, allowing teachers to be licensed to carry concealed firearms in school, according to the Siena poll.
