POUGHKEEPSIE – A car pursuit
that began in the City of Poughkeepsie ended in Amenia early Friday morning
when police deployed stop sticks.

At about 1:15 a.m., Poughkeepsie Police tried to stop a vehicle that would
not comply. When it fled outside the city limits, the Dutchess County
Sheriff’s Office took over the lead and continued chasing it with
the driver failing to stop until he reached Route 22 in the Town of Amenia.

While the vehicle was failing to comply, information was coming in from
Ulster County that it was possibly stolen from Ulster and that one of
the passengers may have been abducted.

When it was finally stopped, police determined all six occupants were
juveniles and there was no abduction; however, the vehicle was stolen
from one of their relatives in Ulster County.

The vehicle owners declined to press charges for the theft so five of
the youths were released to their parents.

The 15-year-old driver was arrested and charged as a juvenile for his
actions related to failing to comply and he will appear in family court
at a later date.

The names of all of the youths were not released because of their ages.
