WHITE PLAINS – Former State Supreme Court Justice Samuel Fredman died on Wednesday.  Following his service on the bench from 1989 to 2000, he became a private arbitrator and mediator.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY17), said she lost “a dear friend and trusted advisor, the first to support my entry into elected office 30 years ago.”
Fredman “was not afraid to speak his mind, always guided by the principles of justice and fairness for all,” she said.
Lowey said in addition to his professional career, Fredman “shared his wisdom and talent” with many community professional, religious and political organizations.
He was past president of the SUNY Purchase Council, past chairman of the Westchester Democratic Committee and a member of its executive committee, and co-founder and past president of the Westchester Jewish Council. He also served as a member of the Anne Frank Center USA Advisory Board.
Fredman served in the US Army Air Forces from 1943 through 1946 and was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant after serving in the South Pacific theater and in Japan.
“Westchester has lost a dynamic leader, skilled jurist, wise counselor and dedicated mentor to dozens of organizations and individuals,” Lowey said.
