Rockland ranks healthiest county in state, Sullivan remains next to worst

MID-HUDSON – Rockland County moved from the number two position in the state last year to be listed as the healthiest county in the just-released 2018 county health rankings by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Rockland ranked sixth for health factors, the same as last year.
Westchester County was ranked third for both health outcomes and health factors, up from fourth place in both categories last year.
Putnam County ranked fifth for health outcomes and fourth for health factors this year. In 2017, the county was ranked fifth for health outcomes and second for health factors.
Dutchess County ranked 14th for health outcomes and ninth for health factors an improvement from 17th in health outcomes last year. It remained at ninth for health factors.
Columbia County improved from ranking 30th in health outcomes in 2017 to 20th this year while health factors remained the same at 13th.
Orange County improved from being ranked 23rd in health outcomes and 24th in health factors last year to 21st in health outcomes and 17th in health factors.
Ulster County’s health outcomes fell from 15th last year to 28th this year while health factors improved from 19th last year to 16th this year.
Greene County’s health outcomes improved from 53rd in 2017 to 47th this year while its health factors improved from 47th to 39th.
Sullivan County remained next to last in the state with health outcomes remaining the same as last year at 61st. Only the Bronx was lower ranked at 62nd. Sullivan’s health factors improved, though, from 58th in 2017 to 47th this year.
