GOSHEN – Orange County
Government’s unassigned fund balance grew by $7 million in 2017,
bringing the total reserve fund to $51.2 million.

“These numbers demonstrate that our fiscally conservative policies
coupled with our aggressive economic development initiatives are paying
dividends for our budget and the county taxpayers,” said County
Executive Steven Neuhaus. Continued economic growth is key to our future
budgetary success and remains my priority.”

The unappropriated fund balance is often called the rainy day fund, and
may be tapped as a means of balancing the budget without raising taxes.
