POUGHKEEPSIE – Police
Chief Thomas Pape has informed the Poughkeepsie City School District that
the recent social media post, specific to the threat of a school shooting
at Poughkeepsie High School, has no merit.

Classes were cancelled on Thursday and Friday, but are expected to resume
on Monday.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicole Williams said to ensure a safe and
secure learning environment, the district will station a police officer
at each of the nine school buildings for the full school day and will
continue enforcing the district’s school safety plan and code of
conduct.

“While we are committed to ensuring the safety of our students and
staff, it is important to remember that school violence prevention is
everyone’s business,” said Dr. Williams.
