GOSHEN – A member of Newburgh’s “600 Gang” who
has been charged by the New York State Organized Crime Task Force as part
of their “Operation Yellow Brick Road” enforcement action,
was sentenced in Orange County Court on Tuesday to nine years in state
prison and five years of post-release supervision following his guilty
plea to the armed felony of criminal possession of a weapon.
Frederick Blue, 21, of Newburgh admitted that he possessed the loaded pistol on May 22, 2017 while at Carpenter and First streets in Newburgh.
Prosecutors argued that Blue had been carrying the gun in connection with his narcotics trafficking activities. He was also charged in May with criminal possession of a controlled substance for possessing cocaine at the same time as he had the gun.
The organized task force targeted 16 members of the “600 Gang” for trafficking narcotics in the Hudson Valley, selling heroin and cocaine in Newburgh and elsewhere in Orange County.
The task force alleged Blue to be a “higher-level member” of the gang.
Orange County assistant district attorneys were cross-designated as special assistant attorneys general to aid the organized crime task force in the investigation and prosecution.
