The CPV plant is less than a half-mile outside the city

MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown has allotted $10,000 for a consultant to conduct a review of the start-up operations of the CPV power plant in the Town of Wawayanda and an analysis of what is being emitted from its stacks.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano signed the agreement with CDM Engineering to conduct the studies.
“Their role is to review the permit to make sure that CPV is in compliance with the permit that was issued by the appropriate authorities and also to review their applications to make sure that everything is as they said it would be. They will also be submitted to us a plan to us to do air monitoring both short-term and long-term,” DeSTefano said.
The startup testing of the electric generating plant has been using diesel
fuel as a legal battle continues over its plan to used fracked natural
gas from Pennsylvania via a pipeline, which has yet to be built.
The stacks at the plant have been spewing steam that has spread over the area with many residents complaining of sore throats and burning eyes.
